Some days I feel like spring is just starting. Today was one of those days. Mid afternoon I got an email from a missionary couple in Florida. They are messianic Jews (Jews who believe that Jesus is the Messiah…Christian Jews if you will). The husband’s mother has been very ill and has not spoken much. However today the couple was able to clearly share the gospel with this dear woman and she became a believer! My heart feels full when I think about the picture… the son praying with her mother as she invites for the Lord of the Universe to come into her life. I don’t think there is anything better?
When I got home today I was on my way back from the mailbox I noticed some new flowers in my front flowerbed. Bulbs I planted 2 summers ago have finally bloomed. I was immediately reminded of the email today. How long has that son been praying for his mother? How much proverbial bulb planting and watering has been done into her life by countless people? And finally the bloom sprouts up and new life is seen. My flowers have taken almost 3 years. This son’s mother- at least 70…
I thought of a friend in Montgomery whose father does not know the Lord. We prayed for years that he would come to saving knowledge of Christ. I still pray for that, even though I haven’t talked to Stacey in over 6 years. And I pray that if he is a Christian now, that he would be living abundant free life that only Christ can bring.
So, yes, I am a girl. Flowers have multiple meanings for me. Yes, I see God working in strange ways. I guess we are weird like that- He speaks through random stuff to remind me of Him and the lessons He is teaching me. I am glad. For tiny purple flowers that remind me of how God speaks. I am glad. (read “I am glad period”)
I know we are in a sermon series called “Speak” so I thought I would share. Sometimes we expect God to speak through thunder, a big something, words on a page that leap out at you (and sometimes He does it this way) but sometimes he speaks through random things we sometimes might miss if we aren’t looking. Amazing.
If you have any stories- feel free to share. How is God “speaking” to you, without any specific words?
Great post, I think your analogy of the bulbs is great. I have a few people I have been praying for, for a long time as well.
I think the example this past Sunday with "noise" was great, God does not always leap out at us, sometimes it is subtle and we actually have to listen.
